It’s been about two weeks since this whole thing kicked off properly (i.e. we found out what the council were up to!) and in that time we have a achieved a huge amount: started this Facebook page, set up a committee, produced and distributed leaflets, got a local councillor on side (thanks Kieran), printed and displayed posters, set up a website, forum and blog, arranged a very well-attended meeting, manufactured placards and posed for a photo. IN TWO WEEKS. I can feel a bit of the old war-time spirit kicking in here and couldn’t feel prouder to be a part of this community. But we’re not resting on our laurels. We have another committee meeting tomorrow, where we have a lot to discuss and plan.
Over the coming days/weeks, we will be setting up different sections our forum to cover all aspects of the GVPS’s (Garden Village Preservation Society) work. The problem we face now is a lack of resources. We are a committee of twelve, many of whom have full-time jobs (and that includes bringing up small children).
HATFIELD NEEDS YOU!
We’re looking for:
• People to help distribute leaflets
• Anyone who understands planning applications (on a town-wide basis)
• Wildlife experts
• Anyone who’s willing to learn any of the above (in a very short space of time!)
If you can help with the above, please get in touch with our volunteer co-ordinator, Nicky Collins at email@example.com.
Finally, I’d like to say a big thank you to the committee members who have worked tirelessly this past two weeks to give us a better chance of winning this fight. I’d also like to thank everyone else who’s been involved, whether attending the meeting and photo shoot, distributing leaflets, producing the placards and posting ideas about how we can fight the proposal.
IT’S GOING TO BE A TOUGH FIGHT, BUT WE’LL WIN – BECAUSE WE’RE RIGHT!
